SCRANTON – School district officials learned Monday night that problems at Audubon Elementary School were years in the making, and solutions may still be months away.
During a buildings and grounds committee meeting held Feb. 28, officials were told that the building is clean of mold but other issues, including the presence of asbestos, still exist.
“To say the school is clean, it’s not totally, environmentally,” Gene Peters, the district engineer, told the board. “Part of our concern is that water had been going into that building for some time, not only in the walls and the bottom.
“There had been water coming in for years. No one really knew it.”
